I picked up the Miki Higonokami or camping knife as the Amazon description calls it with the SLD-Magic steel used for the blade and it is my new everyday knife…
I absolutely adore this knife and the SLD-Magic just might be my new favorite steel!! It is a bit hard so I won’t be doing any prying with it but it cuts like a dream and holds the best edge I’ve ever been able to put on a knife, including my high end Japanese cooking knives…
I use a 1200grit diamond stone inserted vertically at 15degrees and follow up with a strop and this thing is as sharp as most straight razors..
I’ve been cutting invasive Ivy vines with the Miki up to 1/2” and take it home and rinse it off and the blade still looks new, no deformations nothing. A quick strop and it’s shave sharp in moments!
I’ve got two or three $200+ high end knives with super steels from several renowned knife makers and I end up putting the Miki in my pocket every morning! I really adore this knife.
It is quite heavy but I like that about it..
The flipper takes some getting used to and is not the fastest, but it super smooth and rock solid with absolutely no play in the mechanics whatsoever. It’s just really well made and I can feel it everytime I open or close it; it’s extremely satisfying as an anxiety reliever too!
I thought the protruding piece of metal might bother me but it just doesn’t get in my way at all, I just don’t notice it until I’m opening the knife…
For me I’d expect this knife to cost three times as much as I paid for it so at below $70 it’s a steal!
I check Miki’s web site several times a week as there are some other Miki knives I have my eye on but they’re so well made and affordable they’re always sold out!!!
Come on Miki, get your production up so I can buy some more of your knives!!!
